Government Cloud is a private cloud for government that allows agencies to use secure applications for their various remote computing requirements. The current Cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) was setup in 2013, as part of the iGovPhil Project jointly implemented by the ICT Office and ASTI. The setup was small-scale, since it was developed initially to support iGovPhil-developed applications and other services including GovMail. However, as more agencies came to know about GovCloud, the Cloud IaaS was later offered to other government agencies in need of cloud computing.

BENEFITS:

  • no need for government agencies to set up their own data centers or outsource web hosting services
  • efficient sharing of data and resources
  • no need to maintain or train own personnel to manage data center
  • improved security for all applications
  • local technical support

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • completed server and network layout optimization at NGDC1
  • started the second phase: migration from old cloud to new cloud. (platform used: [old] Open Nebula, [new] oVirt)
  • migration: 80% complete
  • completed migration of ICTO projects, NARMIS, GWHS, AGRIS, PMGov
  • 27 government agencies availed the service
  • 128 virtual machines in the old cloud
  • 107 virtual machines in the new cloud
