Record officers from the regional offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently gathered in an orientation seminar on the National Archives and Records Management Information System (NARMIS).
The orientation, held on April 24 at the DPWH Central Office in Manila, was part of the National Inventory of Records workshop, which aims to train records officers in filling out the National Inventory Form as prescribed in the General Circular No. 4 of the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP).
Miguel Sebastian Jr. of the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) Project presented on the seminar. The iGovPhil project designed the system to help NAP automate its inventory of records and rationalize the process of keeping and managing its documents. A demonstration on how to use the Agency Records Inventory System (AgRIS) was held for the record officers who will be using the system.
Also discussed were the other components of NARMIS: the Archives and Records Management System (ARMIS) and the Digitization Fund. ARMIS is a document management and tracking, archiving and disposal application system that facilitates electronic document management for government agencies. The Digitization Fund, on the other hand, is used to digitize public records for better handling, processing and preservation.
AgRIS and ARMIS are on the final stages of development and are expected to be available within the year.
