The University of the Philippines has expressed intention to be the central body that will receive and process applications for digital certificates from government schools.
Digital certificates are used to authenticate and secure online communications through a service called Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). The UP, through eUP, wants to act as the Government Registration Authority (GovRA) for state universities and colleges.
“We welcome UP’s application but it could not be the sole GovRA for all state universities and colleges,” said Dir. Denis F. Villorente, iGovPhil Program Director and Deputy Executive Director for eGovernment. “We encourage other state schools to apply for GovRA accreditation.”
Having other GovRAs will speed up the process and make it more convenient for people to apply for digital certificates.
UP joins two other agencies, Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) and Department of Health (DOH), who have expressed intention in becoming GovRAs.
