This is to give update on the ongoing efforts of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to develop a fiber optic network, through the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) program, that will interconnect 160 government agencies in Metro Manila for faster communications and delivery of services.
The fiber has been laid out and fiber-to-the-building installations are being conducted in offices of recipient agencies with formal agreements with iGovPhil. The facilitation of Memoranda of Agreement with the rest of the agencies is continuing.
To date, we have conducted continuity and integrity tests in 43 agencies in Quezon City. We are now scheduling such tests for our client agencies in Manila.
These tests are part of the final acceptance and testing of the fiber installed in respective agencies. As such, during the scheduled testing, your office will experience network downtime.
Our office is now finalizing the details of the MOA on the use of the iGovPhil network. This is to reiterate that what the agencies have signed before covers only the installation and deployment of network equipment. A consultative meeting will soon be held regarding this matter and we will send an invitation once details are finalized.
